Steve Vai and 4DR Studios have released a groundbreaking app that lets fans experience his performance of Zeus In Chains in augmented reality. This app uses advanced volumetric video technology to create a 3D model of Vai, which can be projected into any environment through a smartphone, writes 4DR Studios.

Vai explains, “The virtual world is the third wave of the digital revolution, following the Internet and then social media. The primary intent of this undertaking is to explore new ways to experience songs, and more broadly tie an immersive fan experience in to the realm of artist performances.”

Performance from all angles
The app, available for $2.99 on Google and Apple App stores, allows users to project a 3D image of Vai performing into their surroundings. Fans can interact with the performance from all angles and even film themselves with the virtual Vai. Natasja Paulssen of 4DR Studios says, “Volumetric video creates 3D avatars of real people, capturing genuine emotions, bringing soul to the digital realm.”

Unique locations
Fans are encouraged to create and share their own clips of Vai’s performance in unique locations using the hashtag #VaiEverywhere. Vai adds, “I encourage folks to download this app and create some crazy content of me performing at a historical location near you, or in a hilarious situation, and upload your video to a platform of your choice to help me finish this video.”
