Jack Black Amped Up for ‘School of Rock 2: Electric Boogaloo’
Actor Jack Black, renowned for his role as a vibrant guitarist-turned-teacher in School of Rock, has enthusiastically declared his readiness for a sequel to the 2003 musical comedy.
In an interview with Joe, while discussing his latest project, Kung Fu Panda 4, Black proposed a sequel title, saying, “I wish there’d be a ‘School of Rock 2 Electric Boogaloo’. I’m ready.”
Black’s portrayal of Dewey Finn, who famously transformed his class with the electric energy of guitar music, struck a chord with audiences, solidifying the film’s success and the guitar as an emblem of rock rebellion. Despite discussions of a sequel surfacing as early as 2008, with the original team including director Richard Linklater and screenwriter Mike White considered for a return, the project hit a snag.
Challenges
Black had previously mentioned to Page Six the challenges in aligning the vision for the film, emphasizing the importance of the original creators: “I wouldn’t want to do it without the original writer and director, and we never all got together and saw eye-to-eye on what the script would be.”
Now, rekindling the prospect of a sequel, Black insists on the involvement of Mike White, whose work he praises: “You know Mike White wrote the first one and he’s a genius. And we’d have to have Mike White back in the saddle, but he’s real busy right now with White Lotus, the best show on TV.”
