Joe Bonamassa’s Orchestral Alchemy: ‘Live At The Hollywood Bowl’ Album Set to Captivate Fans

Joe Bonamassa is set to unveil a new live album capturing his momentous show at the Hollywood Bowl, where he was joined by an orchestra to deliver a blend of his classic hits and cover tracks. The album is scheduled for release in May.

The live album, titled Live At The Hollywood Bowl With Orchestra, promises to provide fans with a unique auditory experience, showcasing Bonamassa’s virtuosity alongside the grandeur of a 40-piece orchestra.

Various Formats

This release, which will be available in various formats including CD/BR, two LP Vinyl (180-gram), and digital, is a testament to his journey in the music industry, particularly highlighted by his reflective statement on the significance of the Hollywood Bowl in his career.

As reported by Guitar World, the performance featured a mix of solo hits and orchestrated pieces, including an interpretation of the Bobby ‘Blue’ Bland song Twenty-Four Hour Blues: Bonamassa’s choice of instrument for this track was a cherry red Gibson ES-335 TDC from 1964, a gem from his extensive collection of guitars.

The concert setlist, as detailed by Setlist.fm, included crowd favorites such as Evil Mama and Dust Bowl, as well as an 11-song set with the orchestra, offering renditions of original compositions and beloved covers like Tim Curry’s Sloe Gin.

Skill

Kevin Shirley, the producer of the live album and also known for his work on Orianthi’s First Time Blues, praised Bonamassa’s skill, referring to the Hollywood Bowl show as ‘a cinematic celebration of Joe’s music’, and a reflection of his unmatched stature in the blues-rock world.

Bonamassa’s collaboration with other artists continues, including a guest appearance on Andy Timmons’ new solo album, and his ongoing partnership with Gibson, which has recently garnered acclaim for his signature Epiphone 1963 SG custom model.

The blues-rock guitarist is in the midst of a U.S. tour, concluding with the Keeping Blues Alive at Sea Festival in March, followed by a European tour starting in London on April 4 and wrapping up in Vienna on April 19. He will return to the U.S. for a 23-date summer tour, culminating in a performance at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom on August 31.
