Rock Legend’s Crusade: Can Brian May Save Both Badgers and Farmers?
A new TV show will look at the fight against bovine tuberculosis in England, with a very special participant. The show follows Queen guitarist Brian May, who has been trying to stop the killing of badgers for over ten years.
The government started killing badgers in 2013 to stop the spread of TB in cows. This has caused arguments between people who want to protect wildlife and farmers who need to keep their cows healthy.
Stop the badger cull
BBC Two writes that May has been working hard to stop the badger cull. He has organized marches, protests, and even a petition. In the show, May says, “I don’t blame people for being suspicious of me in the beginning, because, you know, I’m a guitarist. You know I’m a rock star. What am I doing? Why would I have some contribution to make?”
The show will tell stories from both sides. It will talk about farmers who have lost cows to TB and explain why some people think badgers are being blamed unfairly.
Experiment
May also worked with a vet and a farmer to try a new way to stop TB without hurting badgers. They say their experiment worked, but now they need to convince other people to listen to what they found out.
The show will be on TV on August 23 at 9 p.m. on BBC Two.
