Revealing Memoir on Eddie van Halen: A Brotherhood in Rock

Guitarist Eddie van Halen flanked by Van Halen singer David Lee Roth during their reunion tour press conference in 2007.

In a deeply personal account, Alex Van Halen is set to share his life and experiences with his brother Eddie in the forthcoming memoir Brothers, slated for release on October 22, As reported by Rolling Stone Magazine. Alex offers an intimate look into their shared journey – from their early days as immigrants to the pinnacle of rock stardom.

In the memoir, Alex reflects, “I was with him from day one. We shared the experience of coming to this country and figuring out how to fit in. We shared a record player, an 800-square-foot house, a mom and dad, and a work ethic.” The Van Halen brothers’ bond extended through the highs and lows of life, from their collective struggle with alcoholism to the joy of becoming fathers and uncles, and the countless hours spent creating music in the studio.

Chronicle of family and talent
HarperCollins editor Sara Nelson describes the memoir as “a chronicle of family and talent and the passion to create… The definitive take on Edward Van Halen’s life and death from the one who knew and loved him best.”

While other books have been published about the band, including memoirs by Van Halen singers David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar, Alex has expressed a clear disdain for these outside narratives. In a 2020 interview with Modern Drummer, he stated: “All these people are writing books about the band, and they know nothing about the inner workings of this band. And Ed and I don’t say anything because we’re not in the business of bullshitting on the internet and books and all that kind of crap. We just want to play. It’s that simple.”

Legacy
Brothers promises to be a profound exploration of the Van Halen legacy, as told by the person who stood by Eddie’s side both on and off the stage.
