Mark Knopfler and 53 other Guitar Icons Record Charity Anthem

Mark Knopfler gathered 54 guitar players, such as Eric Clapton, Albert Lee, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, to make a new version of his composition ‘Going Home (Theme of the Local Hero)’. He assembled the supergroup, called Mark Knopfler’s Guitar Heroes, to help fight cancer.
The group includes only famous musicians and the money made will go to the TeenageCancer Trust and Teen Cancer America.
Along with the music project, there’s a new version of the famous Beatles album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band cover made by Sir Peter Blake and Jann Haworth.
The charity work is further amplified by donations of signed guitars from renowned guitar companies and by a private selling of the master recording.
“What I really want to do, more than anything else, is just to thank each and every one for this sterling response’, Knopfler said. “I really had no idea that it was going to be like this.”
