Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Rickey Medlocke has expressed his ongoing frustration over being excluded from the band’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2006.

Medlocke, who performed with Lynyrd Skynyrd from 1971 to 1972 and rejoined as a guitarist in 1996, voiced his displeasure on a recent episode of “The Jay Jay French Connection: Beyond the Music” podcast.

Sentiment
“I didn’t even get inducted with the band because, according to (the Rock Hall), my tenure with the band wasn’t that important,” Medlocke said. He emphasized his belief that he has always been an original member of the band, a sentiment shared by the late Gary Rossington, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s founding guitarist.

Sore point
Medlocke’s exclusion has been a sore point for years. Earlier this month, he publicly criticized the Rock Hall’s decision and reaffirmed his commitment to the band’s legacy, stating that he promised Rossington he would stay with Lynyrd Skynyrd until the end.

Currently, Lynyrd Skynyrd is on tour with ZZ Top, with upcoming performances including a show at Atlantic City’s Ovation Hall on June 28 and at Camden’s Freedom Mortgage Pavilion on August 17.
