Guitar Legend’s Surprise Gift Becomes Treasured Heirloom

Steve Vai recently shared the story of one of his most cherished guitars. It’s not one of his own signature models, but a Joe Satriani signature Ibanez guitar.

Vai revealed this in a video for Positive Grid, where he talked about three of his favorite guitars. The Satriani guitar was a birthday gift from Joe Satriani himself.

“I had a very good birthday one year when my good buddy Joe Satriani gifted me this guitar”, Vai said. He explained that Satriani had used the guitar on tour, then customized it specially for Vai.

As Guitar World reports, Satriani didn’t just give Vai a regular guitar. He “beat the heck out of it” to give it a worn look, and then painted custom artwork on the back. The guitar even has ‘Happy Birthday Steve’ written on it.

Unique piece
Vai considers this guitar a ‘family heirloom’ now. It’s a unique piece that combines the talents of two guitar legends and shows the close friendship between them.

The guitar appears to be a custom-modified version of a Satriani signature model and has become one of Vai’s most treasured instruments.
