Brian May’s Legacy Continues to Shine, also through his Family

In a recent interview, Brian May reminisces of his past as the guitarist of Queen talks about his musical endeavors after Mercury had died and how he gave his grandson his own Red Special.
His self-built Red Special guitar and sixpence pick have become legendary, especially in hits like We Will Rock You, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Hammer to Fall, writes Guitar World.
Tour globally
Even after Freddie Mercury’s passing in 1991, May has kept Queen’s music alive. Since 2011, he has toured globally with Queen + Adam Lambert, featuring original drummer Roger Taylor and vocalist Adam Lambert.
“Freddie would love it”, says May. “He’s always in there, and I think it should be that way. He’s part of what we built together all those years and will always be massively important.”
Busy schedule
Despite his busy schedule, May surprised many by appearing at the grand opening of the Gibson Garage London in February. He mingled with legends like Jimmy Page and Tony Iommi and hinted at a new Gibson guitar release in early 2025.
When he’s not busy with his music business May prefers to spend time with his family. They have top priority. “I’ve just had a Red Special made for a dear relative”, he shares.

“When I got it and I opened the box, I thought, ‘Oh, geez, I really don’t want to give this away. I want to keep this.’ But I will give it away. My grandson wanted a Brian May guitar for his birthday, and it’s great to see that passion coming out in somebody so young who has got my blood in his veins.”
