Van Halen drummer Alex Van Halen has released a touching audio excerpt from his upcoming memoir Brothers. The book, set to be released on October 22, 2024, is described as a love letter to his late brother and bandmate, Eddie Van Halen.

In the 4.5-minute clip titled Overture, Alex eulogizes Eddie, who passed away in October 2020 after a long battle with cancer. Alex reads the excerpt himself, offering a deeply personal perspective on their relationship.

Heart and soul
“Music was our heart and soul”, Alex begins, describing their connection as brothers and musicians. He reflects on the difficulty of losing his younger brother, saying, “Outliving my little brother? This just wasn’t the plan.”

The memoir promises to set the record straight about Eddie’s life and their shared experiences. Alex mentions watching ‘sometimes with anger, sometimes with grief and other times with pride’ as others have tried to tell Eddie’s story, Loudwire writes.

Final piece of music
Interestingly, the book will also include Unfinished, the final piece of music the Van Halen brothers recorded together. This adds a unique musical element to the literary tribute.
